‘Ceremony & Devotion – Music for the Tudors’
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of The Choral Pilgrimage, The Sixteen return to the original aim of the tour: to restore to our great cathedrals and churches the sounds that once breathed life into their stones.
The focus of the programme is some of the finest music by three leading Tudor composers: William Byrd, Thomas Tallis and John Sheppard. All three composers lived through decades of religious turmoil in mid-sixteenth-century England and expressed, in different ways, their devotion to the Catholic faith.
William Byrd (c.1540-1623)
Thomas Tallis (c.1505-1585)
John Sheppard (c.1515-1559?)
