GREENWICH ICE RINK
at the Old Royal Naval College
Sat 2nd December 2006 to Sun 14th January 2007
www.greenwichicerink.com
The ice rink on the banks of the Thames at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich has quickly become a tradition. With magnificent views looking up to Queen’s House and the Greenwich Observatory, and also across the Thames to the many lights and buildings of Canary Wharf the ice rink is situated within the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College – one of the great baroque masterpieces of English architecture – and is set in its owned landscaped grounds on the banks of the River Thames in the centre of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site.
GAYNOR FAYE, winner of last year’s Dancing On Ice, will be on hand at the opening of this year’s ice rink, courtesy of Warburtons, the family baker, from 10am through 1pm on Saturday 2 December 2006 to give tips on ice skating and assistance to those in need. Gaynor Faye is known to all not only through her winning ice moves on ITV’s reality show but also through her roles in Coronation Street, Playing The Field and Fat Friends (which she also co-wrote). Warburtons, the family baker will also be hosting a taster session at Greenwich Ice Rink on 2 December – so toast is on hand to keep everyone happy!
Press Passes are available for the ice rink on Friday 1 December, 6pm through 9pm, which gives time for viewing of the Christmas lights switch on at Greenwich Market at 5.30pm – highlights at the event include Santa and his helpers, live music from local bands and Trinity College of Music, children’s arts and crafts workshops. Then at 6pm Greenwich Tree of Lights returns for its second year in Cutty Sark Gardens. The Tree of Lights will be switched on by The Mayor of Greenwich, Cllr Harry Singh at 6pm, followed by a selection of lively and entertaining seasonal songs provided by the choir of local school James Wolfe Primary.
Throughout the preview evening at the ice rink the Ben Burrell Trio consisting of Ben on Piano, Colin Somerville on bass and Graham Godfrey on drums, all undergraduate students representing the renowned Jazz Faculty at Trinity College of Music, will be entertaining the skating and (watching!).
Ice Rink Press Passes are available for the evening of Friday 1st December. For more information on either ice rink, Press Passes, imagery and information on PWR Events contact PAUL SAVIDENT on 020 8567 2089, or e-mail paul@savident.com.
