Restoration, repairs and maintenance: river walk closure

Major repairs to the river wall and railings are urgently needed. Work will start on 23 April and is scheduled to finish by end October 2006. For public safety the River Walk footpath will be closed and access to the foreshore restricted throughout this period.

Alternative access is being provided just inside the northern (adjacent) railings of the Old Royal Naval College, from the Lewin Gate, opposite the pier, to the Trafalgar Gate in Park Row. As with the current river walk, cycling is not permitted on this temporary route.

These works are being carried out by the Greenwich Foundation for the Old Royal Naval College and are part of the restoration, repair and maintenance programme of the Old Royal Naval College estate. We regret any inconvenience this will cause but these repairs are essential if the river walk is to remain open in the long term.
