Visit the Old Royal Naval College, the great baroque masterpiece of English architecture, set in landscaped grounds on the River Thames in the centre of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site.
The Painted Hall, Chapel and Visitor Centre are open to the public daily 10.00-17.00 and are free. A rich and varied events programme brings to life the magnificent interiors, courtyards, colonnades and dramatic vistas.
Discover Greenwich is a £5.8 million project that will tell the continuing story of the Old Royal Naval College and Maritime Greenwich. It will explore the history of the buildings and landscapes and reveal the people who lived and worked there. The project is to create a new permanent exhibition in the main hall in the Pepys Building and a learning suite and temporary exhibition space on the mezzanine level. The café, shop and Tourist Information Centre will be redesigned and refurbished. Work on the Pepys Building will start in autumn 2008.
£2.8 million has been pledged from the Greenwich Foundation’s own resources, nearly £2 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund and we now have a fundraising target of £1 million.
